BIOS/GPT requires a small BIOS boot partition, often created as the first partition between sectors 34 and the start of a first "real" partition in sector 2048, with type 0xef02. While that's true, I'm not sure that answers a question, and would have to be quite mistaken if that were an installer-provided choice these days. Unlike Windows which doesn't allow to install in legacy mode on GPT formatted disk, you can install Linux Mint in legacy mode on GPT disk
